Frequently Asked Questions About Emergency Periodontal Services

How do I get an emergency periodontal appointment?

Call our office if you need to see Dr. Cabassa for emergency periodontal treatment. We will assess the situation and determine whether you need an emergency appointment. The earlier you call our office, the more likely we will be able to accommodate you for same-day care.

Is a loose dental implant an emergency?

Not always. When a dental implant seems loose, it’s usually because the bridge, crown, or denture that’s attached to it is loose, not the dental implant itself. The restoration can be tightened by your dentist. If this is not the case and the dental implant is loose, it is considered a dental emergency that requires immediate care.

Can a loose implant be saved?

If your dental implant is loose because of infection, dental trauma, or implant failure we will need to access the area to determine if the implant can be saved. In some circumstances saving the implant isn’t always possible. A dental implant may need to be removed in some situations; however, once the soft tissue and bone have healed, you may be a candidate for another dental implant.

What are the signs of dental implant failure?

Although dental implant failure is uncommon, some signs to be aware of include inflammation in the soft tissue surrounding the implant, gum recession, movement, trouble biting and chewing, and significant pain. It’s important that you come to our office as soon as possible in these situations so we can stabilize your implant and prevent the need for removal.

Is gum disease a dental emergency?

Some symptoms and conditions associated with gum disease may require emergency treatment, but gum disease itself is not considered a dental emergency. As an example, gum disease can cause your teeth to loosen or fall out, and lead to dangerous oral infections, which are both dental emergencies. Call our office to make an appointment for an evaluation if you have gum disease.
